For those commuting tomorrow according to SFGate: ""Lucas Valley Road from Big Rock to Westgate Drive just northwest of San Rafael is now expected to be closed well into Monday morning continues after a tanker truck overturned Sunday morning, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said late Sunday afternoon."

Just heard a report that the gas station in Point Reyes is out of fuel and temporarily closed (see early posts about fuel truck tipping over). No word on when it will re-open, plan accordingly. If anyone has updates, please let me know.

Just drove from Point Reyes to Inverness and it is safe to say today is a day to shelter in place if you can. Watched someone almost drive off the road, someone have road rage at whale of a deli and this car inexplicably parked hanging off the shoulder with its hazards on causing traffic jam. Also, I heard a rumor that the fuel truck that tipped over was for the Point Reyes gas station and there is a possibility that the gas station may run out of fuel today. So plan accordingly. Always fill up before coming home, just in case.

TRAFFIC ALERT: A fuel truck has tipped over on Lucas Valley Rd in the turns spilling fuel. The road is closed and no word when it will re-open. Plan accordingly and take alternative routes. (Thx MP and EW)

Yet he bound himself to the mast of his ship so he could hear the irresistible song of half-women, half-birds.
Residents of West Marin have an opportunity to reenact his story with an artist who sees the Greek legend as fodder for a radical experience of self-care.
In August, an immersive design artist from the East Bay plans to bring a two-story raft into Tomales Bay that she tours around in the summertime and calls "Siren Island." The free weekend event will feature exfoliations, massage and treatments with olive oil and mud.
Visitors, who either have to swim or boat to the island, can expect a good time: spa treatments will include do-it-yourself offerings, and light refreshments will be served. There may also be a musical or theatrical performance, but participants will be free to do what they want. The events are only advertised through her website, where subscribers pay a $10 fee to know the next location."

I'm sorry I missed this meeting with Marin County Sheriff Bob Doyle about ICE, especially with the potential ICE raids that may happen this weekend. Would be interested to hear thoughts from people who attended. "In a room full of immigrant advocates, Doyle on Tuesday recited the reason for his office's arrest of the 13 immigrants it has exchanged with ICE this year. They had committed serious or violent crimes, he said, so he was complying with the California Values Act, which restricts local law enforcement's cooperation with ICE but still allows it when certain crimes are charged." "Deputies and @marincountyfire are responding to a reported vegetation fire, approximately 1/4 acre in the 28000 block of Shoreline Highway in Tomales. First engine just arriving on scene. Report of multiple fires on the side of the road at this time. Air resources airborne. Highway 1 in shutdown between downtown Tomales and Fallon Two-Rock road at this time. Please avoid the area. 3 separate fires. Low potential for further spread. Largest fire is 1/2 acre."

"The gray whales that washed up along the Pacific coast in record-breaking numbers this spring prompted researchers to launch an investigation into the cause"”but several authors and artists in the area are taking another route to grapple with the loss. The group will hold a memorial service for the 171 whales found dead along the Pacific coast, including 37 in California, at Dillon Beach on Saturday, July 20. "Our intention is not to make a political statement, but simply to offer an opportunity for people to meet together and share our grief and sense of loss at what's happening," said Larry Robinson, an author from Sebastopol and one of the event's organizers. This is as crazy, sad and scary a story as you'll ever read. "Betai Koffi, a software engineer at YouTube and a San Francisco resident, perhaps consumed more LSD than he should have while on vacation in Bodega Bay "” downing an extra couple hits, according to friends, after initially freaking out on his first two. And he is now charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, and suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound from police." FULL STORY:

The WMF team is back from traveling. First thing we noticed coming into town was this nice boat quietly nested north of White House Pool. Lost its mooring? Also sounds like I missed a sailing school water rescue this week in the bay. And a rat poison on the Farallons debate. Happy Fourth of July everyone. Remember, no fireworks allowed in West Marin today. We don't want any fires, especially with this wind.

The market hosts a weekly chef's booth from 10 to 11 a.m. with a rotation of featured guests who showcase and utilize market produce and products. The singing chef, Chris Waldeck (who goes by Tina Carella on stage), croons as she shares the secret to perfect gnocchi this week using an old family recipe. A taste follows.
