From NWS Bay Area. This is a serious one, be safe. "Very large WNW swell to arrive Sunday and Monday. Cold and unforgiving Pacific waters accompanied with large waves are life threatening. Keep a safe distance from the ocean. Please don't become a statistic. Every year we lose many people to the cold waters of the Pacific. On Sunday long period waves will arrive along the coast. These high energy waves will run high up on area beaches. Sunday nite and Mon seas in excess of 20 ft will pound the coast."

"The Geminid meteor shower, expected to peak late Thursday and early Friday, promises to be the astronomical apex of 2018. With hundreds of meteors sailing across the night skies, Earthlings are in for quite a sight. And best of all, Thursday's weather in the Bay Area is expected to cooperate nicely: Forecasts call for clear skies with inland temperatures dipping into the mid-40s. The slow-moving Geminids are unique because they're only one of two showers that originate from an asteroid instead of a comet. And with their full basket of meteors annually piercing the night sky for as many as eight hours, the Geminids are a favorite among astronomers." FULL STORY: https://www.pressdemocrat.com/...

From a TWMF follower: "Gunshots detected twice in Inverness Park over the last few days. Friday night around 7pm, and last night around 10pm. As an avid hunter/sportsman, it sounds like a small caliber handgun coming from Carmencita or Laurel. One shot and done. Racoons? Remember, it's illegal to fire in a residential area. Know your target and beyond."

"A California sea lion tracked since its birth seven years ago was recently found dead with several gunshot wounds on a Point Reyes National Seashore beach (Kehoe), the national park reported Friday. It is one of hundreds of gunshot cases that have been documented by local marine mammal rescue officials over the years. John Dell'Osso, the national seashore's chief of interpretation and resource education, said a visitor found the male sea lion a little more than a week ago and snapped a photo of it, which showed it had gunshot wounds." The meeting is tonight from 5pm - 7pm at The West Marin School gym in Point Reyes.

"The National Park Service announces a notice of intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for a General Management Plan Amendment to address all lands currently under agricultural lease/permits within Point Reyes National Seashore and the north district of Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

With this announcement, the Park Service introduces a broad range of alternatives for the plan from twenty-year agricultural lease/permits with diversification and increased operational flexibility, to reduced ranching, no dairy ranching, and no ranching alternatives. The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will also include a range of alternatives for the management of tule elk in the planning area, from elimination to active management to expansion of the Drakes Beach herd.

The Park Service's proposed action would allow existing ranch families to continue beef and dairy operations with twenty-year lease/permits, tule elk in the Drakes Beach area would be managed at a level compatible with authorized ranching, and the proposed action would identify improvements to the visitor experience, management strategies to protect park resources, and visitor carrying capacities within the planning area.

This announcement also initiates a thirty-day public comment period from October 31 to November 30, during which the Park Service will host two scoping meetings. The meetings will be identical in format and are intended to share information and gather public comments for use in shaping the plan."

From Marin Public Works: "As part of our ongoing effort to improve roads conditions and safety in Marin County, we're wrapping up 3 road repair projects in West Marin, including 2 retaining walls. The third project repaved 5 miles of Lucas Valley Road, which was made possible by Senate Bill 1 funding! #SB1 funds allow us to address priority projects earlier than previously possible, thereby saving money in the long run by avoiding further roadway deterioration that would require more expensive repair projects."
