I'm confused, anyone else hear about this? "A Monterey County sheriff's deputy arrested three suspects Thursday who allegedly stole property from a business. On Thursday night, sheriff's officials received a call from a resident who saw three men break into a business in Point Reyes Station in incorporated Marin County. The resident said he heard a window break and loud noises coming from inside the store, sheriff's officials said. When a deputy arrived on the scene she allegedly saw three young men walking away from the business. One of the suspects was wearing a pair of rubber gloves, sheriff's officials said." FULL STORY:

MARIN COUNTY TRAFFIC NOTICE: Two new stop signs will be installed on Muir Woods Road to control traffic and improve safety along a narrow stretch of the road. The 150-foot section will operate as an alternating one-way, single-lane roadway. This is a temporary measure until the $5.9 million Muir Woods Road Rehabilitation Project begins in spring 2020. The project, 88% of which is funded by #SB1, will repair 2.4 miles of the popular road. MORE INFO:

"I found what appears to be a wedding ring on the top of Mt Vision rd today. It was on the side of the road and looks a little beat up - it might have been run over by a car or two - but it looks like a gold wedding band. I'd love to return it to its owner. I'll hold on to it for about a week in hopes someone sees this post and gets back to me, then I'll probably pass it off to the sheriff's office." - Anna Dodge

"The 30-foot whale that washed up at Point Reyes National Seashore last month had wounds that indicated it got tangled in something in the ocean before its death, researchers said Friday. The Sausalito-based Marine Mammal Center, which handled the necropsy of the juvenile humpback whale after it washed ashore Christmas Eve, said its team found indented marks and roughed-up skin on the corners of the whale's mouth, around the back of its neck and in circles on its shoulder blade. Bloody tissue was found around the animal's neck and head." FULL STORY:

There is a government shutdown, but no official word from the PRNPS yet about what that means. According to SFGate: "National parks: Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Point Reyes National Seashore, Yosemite National Park and other parks would make site-by-site decisions as to what to close. While many open-air sites would remain open, most visitor services would cease." Anyone else have updated info? SFGate story:

MARIN COUNTY TRAFFIC NOTICE: Work on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at Baywood Canyon (Whites Hill) is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 22. The construction zone will require the closure of one lane of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard for heavy machinery access and crew safety. The lane closure will be in effect for the duration of the project, Monday through Saturday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Traffic flow will be maintained using alternating one-way access through the work zone, controlled by flaggers, during work hours. However, both lanes will remain open outside of the designated working hours. Travelers should expect delays during peak commuting hours and plan accordingly. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work towards improving the safety and functionality of the roadway.

The Point Reyes Light sheds more light on the recent shark attack in the park. It was exploratory. "Just before the attack, there was a lull in the waves. In the calm, she played on her surfboard, kneeling on its face to practice balancing"”and then she slipped. The majority of her body was back on her board, out of the water, when she screamed and jerked her feet upwards, kicking away from biting teeth. The shark surfaced then, rising above the water to reveal an eye, a belly, a fin. Then it disappeared. Natalie Jones, an Oakland resident and former reporter for the Light, suffered bites to both of her feet from a juvenile or subadult"”likely 10 to 12 feet long"”white shark on Dec. 30 in the waters near Drakes Estero." There's a lively, hopeful display underway these days along Lagunitas Creek in west Marin County, where the return of winter rains has drawn endangered coho salmon up into the stream to spawn. After decades of watching Central California Coast coho stock diminish, it's heartening to know 3-year-old fish have found their way back home to reproduce and keep the species going at least a while longer.
